Our Educational Programs & Special Events:

Wild Core is proud to host some of the finest first class educational programs for folks of all ages. Our educational programs all revolve around the environment and how we as inhabitants of this earth can conserve and preserve it. We also teach various programs on: wildlife, trees and plants, ecosystems, weather and much more. All of our programs place a large emphasis on the outdoors, where learning is more direct and hands on. Thus our participants often find themselves working directly with their subject mater. This is a very effective way to learn, and may be one of the many reasons that our programs have been such a huge success.

In addition to learning a lot, they are also very fun and exciting. Who really wants to learn anyways? That’s why we take a whole different approach to learning. Activities, games and direct contact all in a fun and supportive learning environment, makes it so fun, participants don’t even know they are learning!

All though Wild Core offers, many programs, we are probably best known for our new Initiative: Park It. The Park It, Program offers field excursions for school groups, youth groups and special programs for families on the weekends. All the excursions happen in some of Connecticut’s nicest State Parks and Forests. Fun games, activities, and workshops are all apart of the excursions. Topics on wildlife, weather, trees and plants, habitats and eco systems, survival skills and forest forensics are all covered on the various excursions.

Park It may be our most popular program, however, Wild Core also offers programs in the following genres:

  • In Classroom / After School
  • In the Field and on the Water
  • Workshops / Lectures
  • Summer Camps

Our Volunteer Program:

Wild Core’s Environmental Volunteer Program, places individuals all over the state of Connecticut, into their local community to make a difference in the environment and for wildlife. Wild Core is virtually changing the way volunteers well…. Volunteer! Our volunteers enjoy working with Wild Core because of our flexible schedule and laidback program structure. Our volunteers are able to make most of their decisions on their own. After all volunteering is something that should be fun and rewarding, not your average 9-5 job. Volunteers in our program choose: When, Where, How and for How Long they want to volunteer. There are no minimums, and no maximums or other deciding factors; with the exception of any health and safety factors that may be the only limiting culprit to our program. Our volunteers enjoy working in a work environment that is set by their own pace/speed.

Volunteers work on many projects for the organization. Wildlife Rehabilitation, Hiking Trail Maintenance, Gardening, Administrative Work, Interpretive Work, Research Assistant for one of our affiliated Biologist/Scientists, Even Kayaking and Camping are just a few of the many ways our volunteers are making a difference.

Wild Core also has partnered with other environmentally oriented organizations that do not have the technologies or other abilities to recruit volunteers for their projects or programs. In this case volunteers are still working for Wild Heart, but are lending a helping hand to one of our affiliated partners. Becoming a volunteer is awfully easy and is a very rewarding step in the right direction.

Our Research:

Wild Core presently aids the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection with some of their research. We currently supply them with volunteers and research assistants. Our volunteers also aid the DEP as well as The National Wildlife Federation and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in the collection of field data for their research. However Wild Core plans on taking research to a whole new level. Soon we will be sponsoring scientific research that will give new insight to the health and continuing effort of conserving Connecticut’s environment. This program has not yet officially started, however once in operation, Wild Core will have a team of Scientists / Biologists who are working in Connecticut’s environment trying to conserve some of our most important organisms. The program will sponsor these individuals financially, and will also supply them with volunteers and other resources that will help them in their efforts. More information to come soon on this program.

Adoption / Conservation Program:

Wild Core’s Wildlife Adoption Program is different than other programs of its type. Similar organizations may have a program like this, however their program supports conservation efforts on a national scale, and supports wildlife that may soon become extinct. All though these efforts are very important, our program focuses our energy on a local state level; protecting and saving the wildlife right in your own back yard. All of our adoption efforts support wildlife that is injured; some permanently some temporary. Our program also assignees each “Guardian” (the parson who adopts) with a “Real Case” animal. Similar programs just donate the money to a particular fund the goes to a whole bunch of the same species. With our Real Case Adoption Placement Structure, you’re adopting one particular animal that really needs your help. You won’t get a generic picture of that species, rather your kit will include a personalized photo of the actual animal you are supporting, along with updates on its health and recovery progress. You also may have the chance to witness your special friends release back into the wild. This makes our program all that much more rewarding; you actually have the opportunity to witness to the good your conservation efforts have done!
