Welcome Summer!

Welcome to wildcore.org and thanks for stopping by to see what we are all about. Whether it’s your first time on our site or you’re a returning visitor, there is always something new to read and learn about on wildcore.org.

Yes - Summer is here; And Wild Core knows how to keep it real and keep it cool! We are bringing back Free Family Fun throughout the summer. Our programs provide fun and excitement with a dose of education. You can check out a full list of upcoming programs and events on our Calendar of Events page. Activities rang from hikes, camp-outs, family fun day events and so much more. The best part is all our summer events are FREE!

Summer is definitely a great time for families to come together and enjoy all that Connecticut's great outdoors have to offer. Besides joining Wild Core for one of our free summer events, consider vising one of Connecticut many parks and forests. These recreation areas provide families with a safe, relaxing and beautiful atmosphere. I strongly encourage Connecticut's residents to get out with family and friends and explore our parks, stay at a campground you have never been too, hike a trail you have never journeyed on or tread new waters on one of Connecticut's many pristine bodies of water.

While we here at Wild Core encourage you and your family to get outside, we strongly encourage safety while enjoying these gems. Each year in Connecticut's State Parks and Forests, there are far to many accidents, some fatal, that could have been prevented if safety was taken into consideration. Wild Core urges visitors to these recreation areas to use caution and common sense. Be aware and read signs, they are there for a reason; Further more obey these signs. Know your body, your limitations. One of the most common accidents that occurs in Connecticut State Parks and Forests are drownings.

Every summer, Wild Core publishes our Summer Safety Tips, which can be found on our home page. We encourage our site visitors to read and learn ways to keep you and your family safe this summer.

This summer while people in Connecticut are enjoying the great outdoors, people down south are suffering greatly the loss and damage of the beautiful Gulf of Mexico due to BP's Deepwater Horizons Oil Spill. The Oil Spill has spewed an estimated 182 – 215 Million Gallons of Oil and 12 Billion Cubic Feet of Natural Gas into the Gulf of Mexico. The oil and gas is being contained with a chemical called Corexit, which officials say may be more harmful than the oil and gas which turns the thick fuel into tar like pellets. This unmitigated catastrophe is the worst oil spill and one of the most damaging human made environmental disaster ever recorded in U.S. History!

Local residence of the Gulf of Mexico are faced with many life changing hardships. People are forced to change there way of life and the psychological effects this disaster is having on locals is much to familiar, much to soon. The wildlife and wild places being effected by the disaster are in serious trouble and the damage to the environment, as scientists see it say, it may be permanent.

Scientists predict the oil slick may very well work it's way around Florida and start heading up the east coast, right into Connecticut's coastal waters. We need to take action NOW! Wild Core has always made an effort to help safeguard and focus our work on our local Connecticut Environment. But during times like these, I feel the environmental community needs to work together to help aid in the restoration of the Gulf of Mexico. Its a National effort and everyone can pitch in.

Wild Core will be launching a campaign to raise funds, awareness and to collect much needed goods to send down to the Gulf. Please stay tuned to see how you can help.

Saving the environment is a big task, but when we work together as one in the spirit of saving the very earth that supports our being we can and will make a difference! Thanks for Supporting Wild Core and everything we do; You are our earths true heroes!

 Thanks
